Austrian people dance
with the Austrian people dancing one connects usually Austrian people dances, like Schuhplattler, Landler, Polka or tomes. In addition, in addition not originally Austrian people dances belong such as z. B. Zwiefache or some höfisch inspired dances (retort dances) and language island dances or the torch/flare dance. As a whole the Austrian people dance is subordinated to the alpine people dance.

dance families are for example Landler and/or. Ländler, Mazurka, Polka, Rhine countries, Schuhplattler, tome (German dance) or Zwiefacher.

Austrian basic dances
on the side Austrian basic dance are listed all 20 basic dances. There are however innumerable further dance forms and local and/or. regional kinds of play. Further people dances made of Austria are for example the Kuckuckspolka, a Rhine land form, the Lunzer Boarisch, a Paschboarisch form or the Paschate Zwoaschritt, turners - a form.

language island dances
of language island dances are dances, those from German-language minorities outside of today's Austria (see language island, z. B. Filter defiency guarantee) to be danced, for example the Rediwa.
figure dances and round dances
the dance sequences of the people dance celebrations point often only the figure dances (z. B. also circle dances) explicitly out. Figure dances are dances with individual figure sequence, those (z. B. by the people dance care, see also nationality care) a name and a “knowing melody” were assigned.
Among the round dances tomes , Polka , Boari , rank Zwiefacher etc. Contrary to the figure dances the most different become the round dances Melodies played, while the figure dances begin usually with a certain “knowing melody”, by which can recognize experienced dancers, which dance are played. The musicians change only in the course of the dance as desired or ability on other melodies.
The round dances are implemented by most dancers only in their basic form, whereby it however with appropriate being able - and if it fits a character and speed of the music - is possible to use figures of the appropriate figure dances e.g. Lunzer of Boari to the Boari, open tome to the tome etc.

some misunderstandings
of dances, which as (traditional/delivered) people dances are falsely regarded, whereby it however actually concerns “invented” or choreographierte dances, are for example the Vogerltanz, a party dance and the Landler from the musical The sound OF music. (Also with the song edelweiss from the musical The sound OF music concerns it no Austrian Volkslied.)
people dance, folklore dance, Folxtanz, Folktanz and dances of the world
in the Austrian people dance and folklore dance scene (D. h. international folklore dance scene) the international people dances in their whole are called “folklore dances “, in contrast to (Austrian) the “people dances”. “People dancing” thus generally means to operate Austrian people dance. Within the folklore dance scene however “folklore dancing” not always excludes the Austrian people dance .
The reasons for these demarcations might lie in the fact that the term “people dance” is somewhat negatively occupied. With the terms “folklore “and” customs “seem to have in reverse “folklore” in relation to “customs” an ironical resemblance.
This finds also expression in the new creations Folxtanz and Folktanz (see category: Folktanz, which renewed itself as “people dance” (see. “New people music “) see. In the German Wikipedia are all these terms at present in the category: Dances of the world subsummiert. The Wikipedia article people dance understands the terms “people dance” and “folklore dance” as synonyms and uses” alpine people dance “as over term for the Austrian people dance and the related dance landscapes. The terms “Austrian folklore dance” or “alpine folklore dance” would be meant probably always ironical.
Completely in the sense of this linguistic background on the invitation to the Viennese Kathreintanz is spoken 2005 of the “Austrian dance”.
Apart from the described differentiations, which are made however only in the Austrian volume kts dance and folklore dance scene, the categories “people dance”, “folklore dance” and “dances of the world” designate the same.

for the average Austrian is people dance typically not somewhat, in which it participates actively, but one is limited - if at all - to watching with demonstrations and performances. Nevertheless there is an active traditional people dance scene apart from this performance culture also, in which the delivered dances are maintained as leisure pleasures.
