Šluknov (German Schluckenau) is the northernmost city Tschechiens and is on 347 m and. M. in the Böhmi Niederland (tschech. Šluknovský výběžek) in the district Děčín, Ústecký kraj. The city has 5,560 inhabitants and gave the Schluckenauer Zipfel, the area projection/lead Böhmens between Saxonian Switzerland and the Zittauer mountains their name. In the local part Rožany (Rosenhain) is a border crossing after resoling and to the Spree.

the city became in the center 14. Century in the place of an old slawischen settlement Slanknov by the böhmische aristocracy sex of the Berka of Dubá based; therefore the coat of arms of the Mr. von Duba until today is to be seen as Herzschild in the Stadtwappen.
In the first Czech republic Schluckenau was a center of the Sudeten Germans a party Konrad Henleins. This was also a reason that Adolf Hitler selected the city in March 1939 as the first station, before the armed forces in Prague invaded and protectorate was established the Böhmen and Mähren.
1938 ago Schluckenau had 35,000 mostly German-speaking inhabitants. After the invasion of the armed forces in the Sudetenland the few Czechs were sold in the internal Böhmens. From 1938/39 to 1945 Schluckenau was the seat of the land advice of the circle of the same name in realm gau the Sudetenland, governmental district Aussig.
Due to the Benesch decrees 1945 the German population was expropriated and forced the city to leave.
Only few Czechs were at that time ready to establish themselves in the remote nordböhmischen city. Today the city Šluknov and the whole Schluckenauer Ländchen is a problem region in Tschechien. The number of inhabitants amounts to only 1/7 the Vorkriegszeit. A fifth of the inhabitants are Sinti and Roma, under which high unemployment is common. It is hardly possible for the city to receive the existing built volumes. Empty standing buildings are exposed to plunderings.

in the past was Schluckenau herrschaftlicher seat, among other things the Mr. von Starschedel. In 16. Century builds lock is burned 1984 out. For financial reasons after 1990 the work of reconstruction was broken off. After 2000 however the work was again step by step taken up. For the next years a routistic point of information and the Czech forest museum is to be accommodated planned here. The park following to the lock is partly used today for public meetings.
to the city Šluknov belong the local parts Císařský (emperor forest), to Harrachov (Harrachsthal), Královka (Königshain), Království (king forest), Kunratice (Kunnersdorf), Nové Hraběcí (new count forest) and Rožany (Rosenhain).
The city covered also corridors of the Fugauer Zipfels, in which the torn off village Fugau (Fukov) was.
