Aadriaan Cornelis van Leeuwen
Adriaan (US) Cornelis van Leeuwen (* 30. October 1887 in Oudewater; † 30. June 1991 in Arnheim) was a Netherlands composer and conductor.
The local organist and simultaneous conductor of the music association arranged first music instruction for it. Already after short time the young Adriaan in the music association wing horn played. With 16 years it stepped 8 into the service of the music corps. Infantrie regiment in Arnheim. During this time he got instruction in music theory and composition of Dr. van Westrenen, Brants Buys and an organists Christiaans, with which it studied also Gregorian music. 1923 it was accepted as cornetist to the Koninklijke Militaire Kapel to the Hague. 1933 he was appointed the deputy conductor of the orchestra, which he led roll ago during the often times illnesses of the conductor Boer. Additionally it was active also as Trompeter in the orchestra of the Nederlandse Opera as well as at the Philharmoni orchestra in Rotterdam under the direction of Eduard Flipse.
After conclusion of the exam as Kapellmeister it became 1936 conductor of the music corps 6. Infantrie regiment in Breda. Four years later the music corps was dissolved, and it went into pension. However it as a composer and conductor for blowing orchestras continued to work in Arnheim , Zutphen , Apeldoorn and Vlaardingen. It was distinguished with the palms of the Académie Française.
