Adolphe Thiers

Louis Adolphe Thiers (* 16. April 1797 in Marseille; † 3. September 1877 in Saint Germain EN Laye) was a French politician and historian.

Thiers was a journalistand joint founders of the liberals newspaper Le national. With the publication of its history of the French state circulation a new quite positive aspect of the French revolution generally began.

1830 he was selected to the delegate and sent into the Council of State. As such supported it Louis Philippe. Inthe years 1832 to 1836 Thiers dressed successively several offices for Minister. 1836 and 1840 he was selected in each case for short time to the Prime Minister under the citizen king Louis Philippe.

Thiers supported Napoleon I., however, Napoleon III. refused.to support with its coup d'etat. But becamehe 1851 then also arrests. Starting from 1863 Thiers was promoted to the guidance figure of the liberals opposition against Napoleon III.

To 31. August 1871 became Thiers the first president of the third republic in France (1871 - 1873). As such it led the peace negotiations with chancellor Ottoby Bismarck.

In May 1871 with its instruction the rebellion that was struck down Paris municipality.

Thiers was one the Wortführer of the liberalism in France. Since the Royalisten in the national assembly placed the majority, Thiers failed despite positive balance of its politics.
