Alexander V. (Gegenpapst)
Pietro Philargi (* 1340 on Crete; † 1410 in Bologna) were from 1409 to 1410 as Alexander V. Gegenpapst against Gregor XII. in Rome and Benedikt XIII. in Avignon.
Philargi was Franziskaner and taught theology in Paris. 1386 he was appointed the bishop von Piacenza, 1402 the archbishop of Milan and 1405 the cardinal.
As the council of Pisa 1409 both Gregor XII. and Gegenpapst Benedikt XIII. , Philargi relieved of their offices as a Pope was proclaimed, which however neither Gregor XII. still Benedikt XIII. recognized. To intersperse itself Philargi could in the long run only in France and England, applies however in the catholic church until today as Gegenpapst.
It died at the 3. May 1410 in the monastery S. Maria dei Crociferi with Bologna and was buried in the there church of the holy Franziskus.
The change of the historical view is interesting: Also after the council of Konstanz Alexander V. became. and Johannes XXIII. as legal Popes regards - see the numbering of the famous-notorious Alexander VI. Still in the “Meyers Enzyklopädi encyclopedia “of 1897 the Popes of the Obedienz of Pisa become, thus Alexander V. and Johannes XXIII., without analysis as the legal regards.
