They are in Africa, Europe and Asia, but do not represent with exception of humans in America , Australia or Antarktika. By continental drift separately from the new world apes, they havesince the breakup of Africa and South America apart independently of these develops.
One differentiates between two rezente over families:
- The Geschwänzten old world ape (Cercopithecoidea) has, like the name already suggest, a tail. They consist of a family, the long-tailed monkey relatives or dog ape (Cercopitheciaea). These contain most Primatenarten of Africa, of Asiaand Europe, among them the long-tailed monkeys, the Makaken, Paviane, Languren and others.
- The human being-well-behaved (Hominoidea) are tailless in contrast to it. Beside some become extinct groups the Gibbons and the anthropoids including humans to these ( Homo sapiens) belong.
- Besides are still somebecome extinct groups of old world apes admits like the Propliopithecidae (among other things with the kinds Propliopithecus and Aegyptopithecus) and the Pliopithecidae.
