Antonov An-20
Antonov An-20 was a Soviet air freighter project.
The airplane laid out as Hochdecker should of two propeller type turbines of Kuznetsov with 11,000 KW each (15,000 WPS), which are propelled 4-Blatt-Propeller moving in opposite directions and coaxial with 6,40 m diameters to affect. The machine was laid out for a T-54 particularly for transport of military material , about, with a weight up to 40 tons. In addition it was to be thrown off planned loads up to 16 tons over the loading ramp.
Over this loading ramp of 3,8 m broad and 10.1 m length the loading space could be loaded by 3,6 x 3.50 x 21 m (BHL). In the loading space paratroopers could be transported up to 143, who found on folding seats place. In the variant to the transport of the wounded could up to 144 hurt to be transported. In the front range of the trunk were the cockpit for the 5 crew members and a passenger compartment with 27 seats.
The wing had tapered form and a span of 58 m, with a wing area of 279 m ². As landing flaps double-slotted flaps were used. The chassis consisted of one dual-tire nose gear wheel and two main landing gear with four tires each. The chassis could be adjusted pneumatically in the height, in order to simplify the loading and an unloading.
As defense armament two 23mm cannons were intended in the tail.
In June 1958 a model was implemented, but in August 1960 the work on the machine was stopped. The draft was further pursued however, it gave to equip 1960 the suggestion the An-20 with four engines (model Antonov WT-22). The four engines and the changed wing should make a range with 50 tons for additional load possible of 4000 km. In the wing also an APU was intended. There were now 4 main landing gear legs with 4 wheels each, in order to lower the ground pressure. The loading space measured now 4.4 x 4.4 x 30 m (BHL) and made possible so a larger number of different weapon systems to carry. The takeoff weight should amount to maximally 170 tons and be the cruising speed with 650 km/h. From this draft in the long run Antonov An-22 followed .
