for historical reasons become Europe and Asia in Europe (partly not however in Asia!) as different continents regards. The Urals - mountains, the Urals - river, the Kaspi sea, the Caucasus, the black sea as well as Bosphorus, Marmarameer and Dardanellen form among other things the border of Europe and Asia (see Eurasien).
situation and coastal arrangement
Asia lie with its continental land mass up to the Tschuktschen peninsula in east Siberia completely in the eastern Hemisphere, north the equator. Only the southeasternmost islands (parts of Indonesia) are in the Southern Hemisphere of the earth.
The northernmost point of the land mass is the cape Tscheljuskin on the Taimyr peninsula (Siberia) 77° 40 ' n. Break, the southernmost point of the land mass is the point of the Malaii peninsula (cape Buru) 1° 16 ' n. Break. Westernmost point is the cape Baba in small Asia 26° 4 ' östl. L., the easternmost point is on cape Deschnjow (at the northeast point of Siberia) 169° 44 ' westl. L.
The coastal length of Asia amounts to about 82,300 km, of it been allotted to the arctic ocean 15,900 km, to the Pacific ocean 27,300 km, on the Indian ocean 33,600 km and to the Mediterranean including black sea 5,500 km.
The coasts run in the north, the east and the south. In the west the Mediterranean only partly forms the land delimitation. With Africa Asia connects itself north the Red Sea by the peninsula Sinai (land tightness of Sues, 145 km broad) andwith Europe the distance between the Kari gulf and the Kaspi sea a long border forms 2,700 km.
Completely in the east forms the Bering Strait with width of somewhat more than 80 km a border to America. In the southeastthe island world of the Indonesian archipelago forms a connection to Australia.
Numerous larger peninsulas are pre-aged to the enormous land mass. In the west small Asia (Anatolien) (in former times also the island Cyprus was included), in the south the Arab peninsula between that Red Sea and Persian Gulf, India between Persian Gulf and the gulf of Bengalen (with the pre-aged island Sri Lanka) and in the southeast Hinterindien between the gulf of Bengalen and the Chinese sea. At thatSeveral peninsulas with pre-aged island rows, directed southward, show up east coast of Asia. These are Korea and Kamtschatka with the Kurilen, Sachalin and the islands of Japan: Hokkaidō, Honshū, Shikoku and Kyūshū. In the north is the Siberian coastmore by the deltas of powerful rivers coined/shaped.
the city Kysyl is after measurements Douglas Carruthers the geographical center of Asia.

history
see: History of Asia
Asia is the cradle of numerous cultures, for example in China, in India as well as Babylonien and Assyrien in Anterior Asia. All large world religions developed in Asia.
Asia and Europe connect a long tradition at wars (for example Alexander the large one, the Perserkriege, the crusades, the ideas of the Hunnen and the Turks) andat discovery journeys (for example Sven Hedin).
Asia is since more jeher coined/shaped by large realms and not like that splintered like Europe. The Chinese culture left its traces in the world, above all however in Eastern Asia, (paper, printing, compass, silk,Porcelain uvm.). From India the Buddhismus spread. North Asia (in particular Siberia) remained long time almost unbesiedelt, only as itself the Russian realm continued to expand, there larger cities was based. Central Asia was traditionally the homeland of steppe peoples (rider peoples), (for example the Mongols), which represented a threat for Europe in earlier times. The Near East is since that 7. Century coined/shaped by the Islam and had a strongly coining/shaping influence on North Africa.
