development
the development of the AUDI TT began, when in September 1994 the Design center in the California Simi Valley was assigned to convert its idea of a puristic sports car. In the year after a study of the AUDI TT was presented - Coupé on the IAA in Frankfurt the public. The name TT decreased/went back to the NSU prince - models, whose sportiest remarks were the models TT and TTS. TT stood thereby for “tourist Trophy”. The conception of the TT-Roadster-study still followed somewhat later after Tokyos Motorshow in the same year, which received the name “TTS” also in the NSU tradition. The positive resonance with the visitors and the engine magazine journalists ensured for it that one decided with AUDI, the study to build - without large changes. After only three years development time was it then so far: In the autumn 1998 the Coupé with 1,8-Liter-Turbomotor and alternatively 132 or 165 KW (180 came and/or. 225 HP) on the market. One year later was presented the former “TTS” than TT-Roadster.
Design
the order for the Design of the AUDI TT went to the Design center in the California Simi Valley. Away of the company nut/mother and possible doubt carriers could be left far in this surrounding field of creativity free run. , All liberty should be left to the conceptions of creative AUDI Stylisten of bringing their ideas of a sports car optimally to paper. A type of character should develop, as one finds it otherwise only in shape of historical classical authors. The TT should besides an object become, to which on the one hand the desire at the technical perfection is to be regarded, which on the other hand in addition, classical quotations of the building house style and of the early 30's 20's of the last century and its strict form defaults carry should. The first months got few the inaugurated firm prohibition involved given - the first sketches and designs were manufactured in the private dwellings, in order to achieve a higher secrecy. In May 1994 the first sketches were provided by Thomas Freeman, which led then to a first model on a scale 1:14. The circle, the oval, the swung line and clear structures determine the optics of the TT do in accordance with the principle of the building house style, the important and leave the futile. For Peter Schreyer, who was informed always as directors/conductors of the AUDI Design about the activities of the small TT-Design-team, had the permanent desire, each pencil line, each line, to limit each technical solution and each equipment detail to the real necessity already somewhat almost manisches: “We wanted to build the pure sports cars, reduced to the task to help technology and driving joy to a new symbiosis. ”
A classical designerisches highlight of the TT is the round, sevenfold female hexagon-surface-concisely bolted gas cap, which reminds in saliently brushed aluminum with rivet ring of the 30's and appears as typical formative characteristic in the interior in numerous style elements.
For the interior Design Romulus had responsibility rust . It continued the minimalistic external Design in the car interior. The geometrical basic form of the circle dominates also there. Much is held in the sporty-modern aluminum Look. With love for the detail for example the air ducts, the switches for air conditioning system, the rule-degree-indicating light emitting diode switches for the seat heating and the quadrant present themselves.
model care
1998 - 2006
two years after the introduction on the market were modified the chassis and individual body equipment of the AUDI TT. In addition all models were equipped additionally with a small tail spoiler and ESP, since the unstable handling of the vehicle had led to some tragic accidents (see “other “).
Starting from September 2005 the two smallest engine variants were replaced by stronger. The achievement rose from 110 KW to 120 KW (163 HP) and/or. from 132 KW to 140 KW (190 HP). The torque became on 225Nm (before 210 Nm), and/or. 240 Nm (235 Nm) increases. The prices of the basis models remained unchanged.
Offered starting from August 2003 the TT also with a 3,2-Liter VR6 - engine, admits from the VOLKSWAGEN gulf R32, and could now with a direct transmission (DSG) be combined.
In April 2005 the special edition TT came quattro sport on the market. In this model version the 1.8 litres turbo engine , with higher load pressure, carried 176 KW out (240 HP) - thus the TT was quattro sport the highest performance TT with turbo engine. One optimized weight distribution and 75 kg less totalyielded provided additionally for road performances, which lay over those 3.2 litres of the 6-Zylinders (184 KW/250 HP).
starting from 2006
the successor of the original vehicle, the AUDI TT Coupé, became to 8. April 2006 presented. Together with some optical changes, both at the Exterieur and Interieur, there is some also with the technology at new one: Thus the adaptive absorber system “AUDI goes magnetic ride” into series, the moreover in the new TT a material combination made of aluminum and steel is for the first time used with the new TT, which makes the vehicle easier. For the sales start are the 2.0 litres TFSI engine with 147 KW (200 HP) as well as the 3.2 litres of V6 with 184 KW (of 250 HP) available. Both are combinable with the double clutch transmission S tronic (formerly DSG).
The new TT Roadster follows 2007.

model basis
technical was based the first generation of the AUDI TT on the platform of the AUDI A3 on also the gulf the fourth generation its basis found. Whereby the rear torsion beam trailing arm axle the gulf - models, which represents in fact a Starrachse, with which quattro - models against an independent suspension with a along and two wishbones was exchanged.
The second generation of the AUDI TT uses the technology well-known of the gulf V and the second generation of the AUDI A3. It became however and. A. because of the clearly larger wheels strongly modifies. The front axle is a to a large extent again developed McPhershon Federbeiachse with transferred articulated bearings, the rear axle is a four-steering wheel construction. Around an optimized weight distribution to reach the AUDI Spaceframe (ASF) was manufactured to two thirds made of aluminum. Thereby a nearly optimal weight distribution could be achieved by 58:42. A further technical innovation is the “Magnetic Ride”. Here it concerns a magneto rheologic absorber oil in such a way specified, which makes a dynamic adjustment possible of the absorption characteristics to the respective driving conditions. It happens by an externally influenceable magnetic field whereby the oil in the absorbers, provided with metal particles, changes its viscosity and thus the hardness of the absorbers.
other
attention excited the first generation of the TT after its sales start with some accidents, in which also humans came to death. The chassis made excessive demands of obviously the average driver with a high-lying, but very short frontier, in which the car tended very at short notice in fast driven curves from neutral handling to strong overriding. These incidents found a large echo in the media. AUDI acted fast and offered to each owner the Nachrüstung of ESP, a stabilizing tail spoiler and an optimized chassis. The same changes flowed also directly into the quantity production.
