The chemical compound barium nitrate, a white, crystalline solid, is the barium - salt of the nitric acid.
Table of contents |
characteristics
the nitrate of the barium is injurious to health, fire-promoting and a weakly wassergefährdener material. It caused in the burner flame a green flame coloration and can be used as oxidizing agents.
Representation
barium nitrate can be represented by the following chemical reactions:
- on nearly all salt education reactions:
Ba (OH) 2 + 2 HNO 3 -> Ba (NO 3) 2 + 2 H 2 O
Ba (OH) 2 + N 2 O 5 -> Ba (NO 3) 2 + H 2O
BaO + 2 HNO 3 (dilutes) -> Ba (NO 3) 2 + H 2 O
Ba + 2 HNO 3 (dilutes) -> Ba (NO 3) 2 + H 2
- from carbonates:
use
barium nitrate becomes in pyrotechnics the production of Fire works and colored miracle candles uses, because it colors flames green and at the same time an oxidizing agent is. In addition it is used as oxidizer in the primer caps of cartridges and cartouches. An high-explosive mixture from TNT and barium nitrate is called Baratol.
It becomes also in fluorescent screens for TV home receiversused.
reactions
barium nitrate decomposes with 595 °C to barium oxide, nitrogen, oxygen and nitrogen monoxide. Due to the freely set oxygen barium is a good oxidizing agent.
