Barranquilla
Barranquilla is a city in Colombia, capital of the province Atlántico and with 1.380.437 inhabitants (conditions 1. January 2005) fourth largest city of the country.

Geografie
the city is because of the delta of the Río Magdalena in the northwest of the country. The climate is Caribbean warm.
history
Barranquilla possessed to in 19. Century first a small port at the Río Magdalena. After its delta had been made navigable, Barranquilla had an entrance to the sea. Thus that became approx. sea port Puerto Colombia at the Caribbean sea removed 50 km replaced.

Barranquilla is the place of birth of the Colombian musician Shakira Mebarak Ripoll.
Barranquilla is likewise very connected to literature with the work of the Nobelpreisträgers Gabriel García Márquez. He partly spent his childhood in Barranquilla and was employed long years than journalist with the local newspaper “El Heraldo”.
