Baskerville (character font)

the Baskerville developed as Übergangsantiqua of the baroque 1754.
The term of the transition Antiqua describes the position of the baroque writings as transition between the Renaissance Antiquas and the klassizistischen writing cuts. The writing developed by John Baskerville (1706-1775) was considered as technical milestone and as important reference to the later Klassizisten. Nevertheless one preferred the Caslon, which is considered also as „the English Antiqua “par excellence at that time for aesthetic reasons often. Already at lead composition times there were innumerable versions of the Baskerville.
