bio diversity designates those variety of the organismson earth and those covers variety within kinds (e.g. genetic differences between individuals and populations), between kinds as well as the variety of partnerships and ecological systems.

The term was introduced 1985 into the scientific discussion and in particular by the evolution biologist Edward Osborne Wilson by that1988 coined/shaped by it published book bio diversity. Bio diversity is the short form of the term “biological variety” (English: “interspersed itself biological diversity” and “biodiversity”) and in the scientific and nichtwisschenschaftlichen use. Sometimes the term “diversity of species” is falsely used synomym for bio diversity.Diversity of species is however in each casesome of bio diversity.

The term is frequently used meanwhile also in political connections. So for example in the convention to biological variety, which was negotiated 1992 on the earth summit and meanwhile by 187 states and the European union one ratified.

The environmental protection organization Conservation international calls an area with particularly large diversity of species Biodiversitätshotspot.
