The municipality is administered by the office Neustrelitz country, with seat in the city not office-belonging Neustrelitz. Geografie
the area around bright lake lies in a Endmöränengebiet southeast the Tollensesees, embedded between the Wanzkaer lake and the Rödliner lake, their discharges over the Lieps and/or. the Datze northward to the Tollense / Peene /Baltic Sea drain. South this very hilly area (107 m and. NN south the local part Watzkendorf) is the Wasserscheide to the Havel, which flows over the Elbe to the North Sea. The Gemeindegebiet around the Wanzkaer lake belonged to the landscape protection area Tollensetal, the Rödliner lake is part nature park of the Feldberger sea-landscape.

history
the germ cell of the today's Gemeindegebietes lies in Wanzka. The consecration of the there monastic church 1290 is considered as the oldest documentary mention. The village bright lake approx. 2 km east of Wanzka as meadow village one put on. </br> Around the station 1877 with the building of the railway line Berlin developed - for new Brandenburg the settlement bright marine station.
