history

the place Brieskow Finkenheerd received its first mention 1354 under the name Wrissigk. Since 1883 Fischer and farmer village called themselves Brieskow, which with the revolution 1848/49 developed to an industrial municipality. For the municipality 1906 the beginning of the brown coal dismantling was significant. The place name owes the additive Finkenheerd to the industry.

the coat of arms of the municipality is wavy divided into gold and blue. Within the upper range one sees next to each other three bristly, black branches of sand thorn with red fruits and blue sheets. Among them a silver carp is shown.
