Château Chinon
Château Chinon is a city in the Département Nièvre of the French region Burgund (Bourgogne). It is considered to region as one of the principal places of the Morvan - and has 4739 inhabitants (2004). It extends over a surface of 4,28 km ².

history
Château Chinon looks on a long history back. At the latest starting from the 8.Jh. existed a fastened castle of the chinon knights. In 12. and 13.Jh. took place the building of a solid Stadtmauer. As Vasallen of the burgundischen dukes the knights of Chinon had to supply in the Middle Ages materials and honey products to the yard of Dijon. Ludwig XIII. left the walls at the beginning of the 17.Jh. sharpens and gave one its advisor the lock of Chinon, in 17. and 18.Jh. to a baroque land residence one transformed. Meaning attained the place only again in the 20.Jh. as birth and residence of the French president François Mitterrand, which was from 1959 to 1981 mayors in Château Chinon.
