Chavannes the Bois is a political municipality in the district Nyon of the canton Waadt in Switzerland.

geography
Chavannes the Bois is on 469 m and. M., 12 km north the city Geneva (air line), in the extreme southwest of the Waadt. The village extends on the elevator back between the valley of the Versoix and the Geneva lake.
The surface 2,1 km ² of the large Gemeindegebiets covers a section of the back between the Versoix in the west and the Geneva lake in the east. The municipality soil is enough eastward of the Versoix over the height of Chavannes the Bois (with 482 m and. M. highest point of the municipality) to to the canalized run of the Creuson, a left side brook of the Versoix. In the north the area extends into the forest Bois de Portes. From the municipality surface 1997 was allotted 10% to settlements, 37% to forest and wood, 52% to agriculture and somewhat less than 1% was unproductive country.
Neighbour municipalities of Chavannes the Bois are Commugny, Tannay and bad in the canton Waadt, Versoix in the canton Geneva as well as Grilly in the adjacent France.

The total population of Chavannes the Bois amounted 1850 to 58 inhabitants, 1900 to 68 inhabitants. After 1960 (44 inhabitants) a rapid increase in population with a Verneunfachung of the number of inhabitants began within 40 years.

history
the first documentary mention of the place took place 1316 under the name Les Chavannes de Sovernyer, 1355 appeared the designation Cabane Nemorum (derived from latin word nemus, nemoris in the meaning of forest, wood). Chavannes is to be due to the vulgärlateinische word capanna (hut , small yard). Since the Middle Ages the area belonged around Chavannes the Bois to the rule Coppet, which sold the Ländereien 1355 to the Cistercian abbey Bonmont. The Mr. von Grilly raised likewise taxes in the village.
With the conquest of the Waadt by Berne in the year 1536 Chavannes the Bois came under the administration of the Landvogtei Nyon and 1711 to the Vogtei Bonmont. After the collapse of the Ancien régime Chavannes the Bois from 1798 to 1803 during the Helvetik to the canton Léman, belonged, which came up afterwards with the coming into force of the Mediationsverfassung in the canton Waadt. The place does not possess own church, it belonged to the Pfarrei Commugny.
