Cumberland (England)
Cumberland is one of the 39 traditional counties in England. 1974 were combined Cumberland with Westmorland and parts of Lancashire and Yorkshire, in order to form the new county Cumbria.
The administrative seat was in Carlisle and the county bordered on Northumberland and County Durham in the east, Westmorland in the south and on Lancashire in the southwest.
Cumberland was administratively differently than the remaining counties, which are divided into hundreds, divided into five wards: Allerdale above Derwent, Allerdale below Derwent, Cumberland, Eskdale and Leath.
The name of the county is used also today still as geographical designation and used of different organizations and enterprises like z. B. The Cumberland news, The west Cumberland Time and star or Cumberland Building Society.
