It is like all new E-motor coaches 67,40m long and fourth-hasty. It is built after the rapid-transit railway DIN and possesses no WC. As lightweight construction vehicle it consists to a large extent of aluminum. As drive three-phase alternating current technology with brake current back supply is used, the achievement amounts to 2,350 KW here. The maximum speed of theMotor coach amounts to 140 km/h. With a floor height of 990 mm it is optimized for most platforms of the rapid-transit railways Munich , Stuttgart , Frankfurt/Main and Rhine Ruhr. With large meetings motor coaches of the series 423 drive additionally also with the rapid-transit railway Hanover, where otherwise only the Niederflurtriebwagen of the series 424 is used.
a short course of the series 423 consists of the following parts:
- 1. 423,001 - 499
- 2. 433,001 - 499
- 3.433,501 - 999
- 4. 423,501 - 999
the numbers of all parts is identical, whereby only 3. and 4. Dare the number by 500 increased. Two short courses form an execution, three short courses form a long course.
the course is clear, one can from an end to the other one examine. The courses possess inside a passenger information system (FIS), which indicates and acoustically announces the next stop. Besides they are with a system for technical dispatching (TAV)equipped, whereby the engine driver does not have to supervise the doors, this is taken over by light barriers.
The courses differ from the similar series 424, 425 and 426 by three instead of two doors for each side of the car and the missing WC.
Duringthe series 423 with the South German rapid-transit railways to a large extent the series BR 420 replaced, are in the Rhine Ruhr district usually on the rapid-transit railway lines still locomotive-covered courses with x-cars on the way. Frankfurt/Main still is in the conversion. So faronly the lines S1, S4 and S6 exclusively with courses of the series 423, are served on the other lines drive them in the mixing process with the series 420. Like also the similar series 424-426 these vehicles become often with the pointed name“Quietschie” designates, since when starting a high and partial loud noise is caused by the Drehstrommmotor and drive electronics.
