GDR upper league
the upper league was in the GDR in different kinds of sport, z. B. Football or hand ball the highest in each case play class and determined the GDR master. Particularly in the FRG the term GDR upper league was common, in order to distinguish it from the highest soccer game class “upper league “existing also there.

in the summer 1947 became in thatSoviet zone of occupation the supraregional play enterprise again taken up. The east zone master was determined twice in a cup round locking the season. 1949, still before establishment of the GDR, were introduced here a uniform highest play class, the DS upper league (DS = German sport committee). In the first season 1949/50 those playedUpper league without (east) citizen of Berlin crews, since these played the West-Berliner together with clubs still in a common upper league. The upper league played since the season 1954/55 firmly with 14 crews, whereby the two Letztplatzierten descended into the league. With establishment of the DFV she was called starting from 1958officially DFV Oberliga, was generally however always called upper league or football upper league. Between 1956 and 1960 the upper league played after Soviet model from spring to autumn. In the autumn 1955 therefore a transition round was played, i.e. a simple point round without championship and without ascending and descending.1961 one returned to the autumn spring mode, the season 1961/62 as three-fold play round was delivered (home and Auswärtsbegegnung as well as a play at neutral place). After the turn the DFV was dissolved and the NOFV as regional association of the DFB was created. The last upper league season 1990/1991 became under the designation NOFV Oberliga out easily.
