David Aebi (* 7. February 1978 in Freiburg in the Üchtland) is a Swiss professional - ice hockey - goal keeper. It plays in the NHL with the Montreal Canadiens and is Torwart of Swiss ice hockey national team.

Aebi selected in the NHL entry draft 1997 in place 161 by Colorado. Up to its first NHL play to 18. October 2000 against the Columbus Blue Jackets played Aebi with the Hershey Bears in the unterklassigen league AHL. Before it already played with the Chesapeake Icebreakers and the Wheeling Nailers in the ECHL (East Coast Hockey League). Starting from season 2003/04 was Aebi master goal keeper of the Avalanche, where he replaced the legendary Patrick Roy. To 9. March 2006 it was then exchanged after Montréal.

To its successes those belong to bronze medal with Switzerland with the junior world championship 1998 and the Stanley Cup - victory with the Colorado Avalanche 2001.

Because the NHL season 2004/05 had failed because of arguments between players and team owners around the payment (a Lockout in such a way specified), Aebi in Switzerland with the HC Lugano played as a substitute. At the olympic plays 2006 in Turin it was involved with its gate waiting partner Martin Gerber considerably in the good achievement of Swiss. David Aebi and Martin Gerber are only Swiss goal keepers, who could succeed in the NHL over longer time.

At the 9.März 2006 Aebi in a mega+ Deal for José Theodore by the Montreal Canadiens one exchanges.
