genuine Susteren (at the beginning of of 2005: 32,322 inhabitants) is 2003 a developed municipality in the Netherlands, in the province Limburg.

places

to the municipality belong:

• Original small towns: Genuinly, Susteren (where the local administration has its seat) and Nieuwstadt.
• Villages: Koningsbosch, pc. Joost, Roosteren, Maria Hoop.
• Localities: Peij (with Trappistenkloster), and some different.

situation and economics

genuine and Susteren lie south of Maasbracht to the Maas and at the July IANA channel. Both places have a small station at the railway line Eindhoven / Roermond - Maastricht. Also the motorway between these cities has exits after genuine and Susteren. The industry is versatile, consists however, apart from a roofing tile factory, only of small firms. Many inhabitants oscillate to the work elsewhere, among other things with DSM in Sittard Geleen.

history

genuine and Susteren were settled in the Bronzezeit already. In genuine a well was excavated; therein one found Roman Zierrate and utensils.

In Susteren already stood in 8. Century the abbey Susteren. Genuinly, Nieuwstadt and Susteren got all in 13. Century the municipal law. The places were times part of the duchy funds, times the duchy Jülich. , The development of these places impaired these disputes as the competition of other cities and some inundations of the Maas strongly.

At 1850 the industrialization in genuine (factory of roofing tiles) began. Susteren and genuine were to January 1945 in the Second World War of October 1944 - because of the western front, and suffered thereby large damage.

a beautiful church stands for objects of interest in Susteren in Roman style, from that 11. Century. In the environment water haven is possible on the Maas (see also: Maasbracht), and it gives something forest with Koningsbosch, where one can walk.
