neighbour of cities and - municipalities are belonging to wine mountain in the west and the north , Obersulm in the east and teaching stone field in the south, everything to the district Heilbronn. A small Ellhofener Exklave is northeast the actual municipality between wine mountain Wimmental, Obersulm and Bretzfeld (Hohenlohekreis). Together with Eberstadt, teaching stone field and wine mountain Ellhofen forms the local administration federation „for area wine mountain “ with seat in wine mountain.

Ellhofen becomes in the Öhringer charter of foundation over the establishment of the Öhringer of choir gentleman pin by bishop Gebhard II. from Regensburg in the year 1037 mentions for the first time. Half of Ellhofens is at this time in the possession of this pin. To abolition of the pin in the reformation went its local half to the counts von Hohenlohe, who had already before represented pin in Ellhofen as Vögte. The other half could do in 16. Century Württemberg actually bring, which assigned its portion of 1755 to the upper office wine mountain. In the course of the Mediatisierung due to the realm deputation main conclusion also the hohenlohische half of Ellhofen came 1806 at Württemberg. After the dissolution of the upper office wine mountain the place was assigned 1926 then to the upper office and later district Heilbronn.

Blasonierung: In blue of two diagonally-crossed silver keys with downward and outward turned beards.

The flag of the municipality is white blue.

The key is the attribute of the holy Petrus. The keys in the Ellhofener coat of arms are to be determined since 1844 in municipality seals. They can be referred both to Petrus and Mitpatron of the Ellhofener church and to pin in Öhringen, since that the 11. Century in Ellhofen possession had and the holy Petrus and Paulus was geweiht.

1938 became the keys for the first time coat of arms figures of the Ellhofener of coat of arms. The coat of arms colors were likewise suggested 1938 by the württembergischen archives management. Coats of arms and flag colors became the municipality to 25. March 1963 of the ministry of the Interior of Baden-Wuerttemberg lent.

Ellhofen is a steeped in tradition viticulture place in the Weinbaugebiet Baden-Wuerttemberg, whose situations belong to the large situations of Staufenberg and salt mountain in the range Württembergisch Unterland.
