Retirement
retirement is relieving (retirement) a professor, an university teacher or a minister of the obligation of the everyday life business for age reasons.
overview
the retirement is not equivalent to the retirement. Professors, those in Germany before (depending upon Land of the Federal Republic different) a deadlineappointed are, enjoy a special retirement right: They receive a higher Ruhegehalt, which corresponds approximately to paying before entrance of the retirement. Instead of to emeritieren professors can also let themselves be retired. A retired professor has no more Dienstpflichten contrary to emeritierten professors, can thus for exampleimmediately stop the support of graduate students.
The word is derived etymologisch from latin verb emereo ,
- “the right, a requirement on something acquires itself” or
- “retired, old, uselessly”
is meant.
An university teacher in such a partial retirement (Emeritus and/or. Emerita) is less “retired”,it acquired itself the right to withdraw itself from the routine everyday life obligations. It must itself thus - if it was institute executive committee before - no more for the administration of the institute to care. It needs to hold no more lectures - this can however still furtherdo. Possibly it can use still another service room, in order to lock research work. It remains usually member of the university, at which it was before active.
Emeritiert is not called transferred thus “into the retirement”, but “retired” and the title remains unchanged in the old Lands of the Federal Republicwith (Univ. -) Professor. and in the new Lands of the Federal Republic becomes the title and/or. the service designation (Univ. -) Professor. shortened em. or emerit. attached. A Emeritus thus quite still is in the office and may for example Diplomanden and graduate students care for, member of test clerk ions, appointment clerk ions and other commissions be,and appraisals provide, for example for courts or public prosecutor's offices.
Under same meaning the term retirement is used also on bishops and Domkapitulare within the catholic church, a emeritierter bishop is thus relieved for age reasons of its tasks.
