Engelbert II. of falcon castle
Engelbert II. of falcon castle (* around 1220; † 20. October 1274 in Bonn) was the 56. Archbishop of Cologne (1261 -1274).
He was the youngest son of the count Dietrich I. by Heinsberg and falcon castle as well as its Mrs. Beatrix.
Engelbert became 1253 archie deacon in Lüttich, 1257 Dompropst in Cologne and became to 2. October 1261 from the cathedral chapter to the archbishop selected and thus successors of Konrad von Hochstaden.
It tried to reach power over Cologne against the Patrizier, turned out however 1263 for 20Days in shank and 1268 from the city were driven out. It left thereupon a residence in Bonn to establish. 1266 it assured fair treatment and the unimpaired use of its cemetery at the Bonn road to the Jews of Cologne. After the defeat with Zülpich to 17. October 1267 became Engelbert up to 16. April 1271 on the castle Nideggen of the count Wilhelm von Jülich allied with Cologne kept imprisoned. Engelbert crowned Rudolf of having castle in October 1273 to the German king. 1274 it participated in the second council of Lyon .
Its successoras an archbishop became Siegfried of Westerburg. Engelbert found its last peace in Bonn Münster.
