Eric Linklater

Eric Linklater (* 8. March 1899 in Dounby, Orkney, † 7. November 1974 in Orkney) was a Scottish writer.

He spent his childhood on the Orkney islands. He had to interrupt its study of the medicine and the English literature during the First World War. After the war it graduated in English literature and worked several years in Bombay for Time the OF India, before it went into the USA.

In the USA it wrote its first book, which became in England a large success. Later he taught English literature at the university of Aberdeen and was some years its rector.

Eric Linklater is buried in Harray Kirkyard (Orkney).

In its entire literary work (novels, essay, dramas, biographies, Kinderbücher, satires) it remained faithful for its homeland Scotland. Often it points the human weaknesses out in its works, to become hurting but without thereby.
