FastPath
FastPath is the name for an option for the decrease of the latency with ADSL - connections.
Advantages are a better response time with on-line plays, a smaller language delay and better echo killing with Internet Telefonie, as well as a slightly liquid Web use. As disadvantage the effective data transmission rate can sink in rare cases.
technology
is realized FastPath by switching off Interleaving, an aid to the error correction, on the distance between DSL modem and the Übergabepunkt with the telephone network operator (DSLAM). Without FastPath are interlocked transferred the data blocks, in order to be able to correct data errors, which result from brief electrical disturbances on the voice grade channel, better. This nesting leads to which is relatively high and the return time of the packets (so-called Pingzeit) with on the average 80 ms. With the FastPath option the packets will individually transfer and the latency sink on approximately 20 to 40 ms.
Possibly arising transfer errors increase by TCP minutes are corrected. The disconnection of the Interleaving can become problematic then, if the DSL connection, dependent on the line quality and - lengthens, already at the border of its efficiency is. This is excluded however by previous examination of the telephone network operator.
