In a training accident Stirling Moss suffered heavy injuries, a further training accident terminated the career of Mike Taylor. In running it came however still more badly: In the 20-round had an accident Chris Bristow on Cooper after a collision with Willy Mairesse deadly. Only 5 rounds Alan Stacey died later, than a bird pierced its helmet, it off the distance got and its car caught fires. Running was continued however and ended with a three-way Cooper triumph. Beneficiary of the boycott was Jack Brabham, which could fix its second world champion title despite nonparticipation, since also its sharpest competitor Bruce McLaren did not begin.
