Joint (gap)

One Joint (add, join) is a gap or a gap between two construction units or materials. If a joint is to be sealed, one differentiates between two types:

• Extension or butt joint
• Connecting joint (see also Resoling joint)

Expansion joints must z.B. in with slab method to be planned, in order to adjust the length variations of the individual disk elements (damp length variations, read-caused thermal length variations, length variations), without squeezing develop, which would lead in extreme cases to the destruction of the construction units. In order to prevent the penetration from water to, expansion joints with permanent elastic sealing materials are sealed.

Connecting joints develop inadvertently, if two different construction units together-meet, and which is to be sealed formed gap. One finds the most well-known connecting joints in the sanitary area, z.B. the connection between showering cup, bath tub or wash basin to wall or soil. In most connecting joints only small relative motions, so that also sealing materials with smaller occur to be used can.

Joints can be also artificially attached, in order a building a monumental appearance to give (Joint cut).
