Gillespie County was formed for 1848 from parts of the Bexar County and Travis County. It was designated after Robert Addison Gillespie, a soldier in the Mexican-American war. 1908 became the later US president Lyndon B. Johnson in Stonewall, a place in the Gillespie County, born.
