Giovanni Falcone
Giovanni Falcone (* 18. May 1939 in Palermo, † 23. May 1992 in Capaci with Palermo) was an Italian lawyer and „mafia - hunters “.
Falcone is considered as symbol figure of the fight against the organized criminality in the south of Italy. Beginning of the 1980er years developed it in Palermo a special commission for the fight of the Cosa Nostra . The fact that the mafia pervasive on Sicilies did not want to permit such disturbances of their power and business made it clear again and again by numerous notices on the investigators. Steadfastly and with very much courage the Falcone standing under constant police protection led starting from 1987 as an examining magistrate Massenprozesse against approximately 400 members of the mafia, by whom numerous were condemned to detentions. it changed 1991 in the Italian Ministry of Justice.
Falcone was killed together with its wife Francesca Morvillo and three bodyguards by a bomb, when he was on the way to his weekend house with Palermo. The assassins had deposited under the motorway with Capaci in close proximity to Palermo 500kg explosive and had remote controlled ignited. For this assassination attempt the butcher of the Cosa Nostra, had to answer for itself Giovanni Brusca, before court and is arrested since 1996. It is assumed that the murder was given by Salvatore (Totò) Riina in order.
The assassination attempt on Falcone fell Italy into a heavy crisis.
