1893 brought the medical student the football haven from Prague to George August Wagner to Graz, a groupfrom Allroundsportlern (Turner, cyclist and mountain climber) “technician of the alpine club”, who studied in Graz, found favours at the round leather. Although the population showed few to no understanding for this new kind of sport, the football found gradually also with the central pupils resemblance and formeditself “lane crews so mentioned”. In order not to give to the teachers cause for annoyance, by the central pupils even pseudonyms for the newspaper reports were used.
To 18. August 1902 - on the day of the emperor Geburtstag, the highest holiday of this time became exact the Grazer Athletik sport club (GAK)officially based. In the “Stieglbräu at that time” in the Grazbachgasse took place the founders' meeting. During the naming for the Grazer Allroundsportklub served the Viennese Athletiksportklub, which was prominent as Allroundverein in Austria at that time, as model.

set sponsors after the establishment of the association on the components idealism and private initiative. Membership dues, donations and spectator incomes brought that“Grazer Athletik club” over the first years, because Sponsoring was at that time still another foreign word.
Only end of the 50's, at the beginning of the 60's gave it beginnings of genuine support on the part of the economy. The former sponsors were nevertheless like that something like sponsors. The Grazer vegetable wholesale dealer Evaristo thoseLenardo and Anton Herzl, his indication founder of the shoe company boot king, seized for the first time for the Athletiker into the private bag.
In the time at that time sponsors were considered as “Patronanzfirmen so mentioned”, whose Logos was imprinted on the Dressen.
The first large sponsor Deal succeeded to the GAK 1969, when Swiss clock manufacturer Marvin with the yearly total of 500.000 Schilling supported the association.
Some sponsors, who followed Marvin, one does not find today no more in the industry book, so for instance the enterprise carpet country, the ATS bank (a more than inglorious chapter in restaurant history of theGAK), or also Körting TV, which helped the GAK from an economical bottleneck within two years.
1978 provided the window manufacturer Gaulhofer for an economic upswing and 1980 got the association to date most faithful backer “Ringschuh”. Up to the descent 1990 was the purchasing association main sponsor of the GAK.
Beginning of the 90's the Casinos Austria became the main sponsor, until 1997 the current sponsor dear gentleman was found.

Europacup
(conditionsAugust 2005)
The GAK qualified itself since 1998 each year for the main round in the UEFA Cup.
The 2 became four times. Round of the UEFA Cups reached (1996-2001), one failed only scarcely because of the attractive opponents inter Milan (1996/97), to AS Monaco (1998/99), Panathinaikos Athens (1999/2000) and Espanyol Barcelona (2000/01).In the season 2001/02 the crew in the 1 failed. Round of the UEFA Cups at the Dutch club fiber plastic Utrecht.
Three times the GAK failed up to now in the 3. Round of the championsleague - qualification, at just as attractive opponents: Locomotive Moscow (2002/03), Ajax Amsterdam (2003/04) and fiber plastic Liverpool (2004/05).
In the season 2003/2004 one separated with a not so glossful achievement, after two undecided plays, against the Norwegian master Vålerenga IF, in the 1. Round of the UEFA Cups out.
But in the season it saw 2004/2005 better around some for the “red devil”from Graz out. After an external victory against the fiber plastic Liverpool, they separated only scarcely after the 3. Qualification round of the champions League out, since the Heimspiel was lost after good achievement. In the UEFA Cup the crew rose after a clear victory against Litex Lovech from Bulgaria, into the for the first time delivered group phase of the UEFA Cups up. In the group F two away games waited against AJ Auxerre (0: 0) and against the Glasgow Ranger (0: 3) and two Heimspiele against Amica Wronki (3: 1) and against AZ Alkmaar (2: 0). Behind AZ Alkmaar one occupied the 2.Rank in the group and ascended in the Sechzehntel final, where two attractive plays waited against the fiber plastic Middlesbrough. The first leg was delivered in the home stadium and after good achievement and some contentious situations reached the Grazer “only” a 2:2 undecided. In the replay lost the “red devil”(after a 0:1 guidance) with 2:1. From in the Europacup 04/05 was sealed with it.
The extraordinarily good home balance of the GAK is remarkable: Of altogether 23 plays in the UEFA Cup and/or. the championsleague qualification, the GAK won 15 plays, 6 times separated the crews into Stadium Graz Liebenau undecided and only 3 time lost at home the GAK so far in the Europacup (locomotive Moscow, fiber plastic Liverpool and RC Strasbourg). A gate relationship of 47:16 (until 2005) witnesses from the home strength of the crew.
Joachim stable holds the torr cord of 3 gates in a Europe CupPlay against Kl Klaksvik (5: 0).
