Case (fruit)
the case is the type of fruit, that leguminous plant-learns (Fabaceae, Leguminosae) is own. It is a strewing fruit, which consists only of a Fruchtblatt and with the ripe one opens both at the belly seam and at the back seam.
In the course of master history within the Hülsenfrüchtler from cases closing fruits developed several times, as for instance with the Tamarinde, the fruit of the Tamarindenbaums (Tamarindus indica), or with the clover (Trifolium).
The case sees superficially to the Schote similar. Colloquially - and in the botanischen sense wrongly - therefore often the cases of beans, peas and further leguminous plant-learn “Schoten” called.
Due to their high protein content and the large yields on small surfaces fruits and seeds of the Hülsenfrüchtler are nearly world-wide an important component of the human nutrition. In particular with meat-poor or vegetarian food they are nearly indispensable. In recent time there were however scientific publications that a nutrition, those beside meat, weissbrot and zuckerhaltigen beverages among other things also without leguminous plants done and but much fresh fruit contains, which is to offer best protection from diabetes.
To the leguminous plants belong among other things Peas, beans and lenses as well as peanuts, Kichererbsen brooms, clover, Lupinen, Wicken and soy beans.
