Hajdú Bihar [ˈhɒjduːˈbihɒr] is a Komitat (administrative district) in east Hungary. It borders in the east on Romania as well as on the Komitate Békés, Jász Nagykun Szolnok, Borsod Abaúj Zemplén and Szabolcs Szatmár Bereg.It has a surface of 6.211 km ² and (2001) 544,582 inhabitants. The Komitatssitz is Debrecen.
The area is flat and has portion of the large Hungarian lowlandses. In the west the Komitat reaches the Theiss.
Hajdú is the traditional district that Heiducken, which were settled here around 1605 of Stephan Bocskai as border resistance against the Osmanen. It was combined after the contract by Trianon 1920 with the remainders of the Komitats Bihar, whose largest part belongs since at that time to Romania and forms the district Bihor there.
