Henry L. Stimson
Henry Lewis Stimson (* 21. September 1867 in New York town center; † 20. October 1950 in Huntington in the US Federal State New York) was an US-American politician. It was among other things War Minister (United States Secretary OF was) and minister of foreign affairs (United States Secretary OF State) of the USA.
Stimson completed 1888 the University of Yale, at which he belonged to the student connection Skull & Bones. In this time he became acquainted with Mabel Wellington White , which he however only years married later. After law studies at Harvard University he worked since 1891 in a law office, in which it became 1893 the partner.
In the year 1906 Stimson became the public prosecutor in New York. In the year 1910 it started in the choice to the office of the governor of the State of New York as a candidate of the republican party, however this choice lost. In the year 1911 it became under William Howard taffeta war Minister, who position it kept until 1913.
In the years 1927 to 1929 Stimson represented the interests of the USA as the governor of the Philippines. In the years 1929 to 1933 it was under harsh ore C. Hoover minister of foreign affairs. In this time it established the Stimsondoktrin. In the years 1940 to 1945 he was again a war Minister. As such designated it the Morgenthau plan as “crimes against the civilization”.
After Stimson the submarine became USS Henry L. Stimson designated. Also the Stimson Memorial Chapel in Bonn carries its names.
