University for diagram and book art Leipzig

the university for diagram and book art (HGB) is one of still three universities remained in Leipzig. It was created 1764 and is thereby one of the oldest German academies of art. Today learn here approx. 450 students in the four courses of studies painting/diagram, book art/diagram Design, photography and media art.

history

to 6. February 1764 created prince Franz Xaver as administrator for his nephew, the still minor cure prince of Saxonia Friedrich August III. (1750-1827), in Leipzig an academy for painting, which it subordinated to the academy of arts in Dresden.

The indication academy was opened in the autumn 1764 in the Leipziger authority building. In the summer 1765 it moved into the west wing of the kurfürstlichen polarizing eating castle. Later it expanded to the design, Malerey and Architectur Academie (academy of arts).

Directors of the academy of arts were among other things:

• 1763-1799 Adam Friedrich Oeser (1717-1799)
• 1800-1812 Johann Friedrich August table-leg (1750-1812)
• 1814-1841 Veit Hans Schnorr of Carolsfeld (1764-1841)

around 1835 led the mechanism the name academy of the forming arts. Beside the director there were one teacher of architecture and two teachers of the free signature. Instruction was free.

In the year 1900 the Leipziger academy of arts was converted into the royal academy for graphic arts and book trades. Since 1897 were the sculptor, painter and commercial artist Max Klinger (1857-1920) a professor at the academy of arts.

After the dissolution of the Kingdom of Saxonia and the education of the Free State Saxonia the Leipziger academy of arts bore the name national academy for graphic arts and book trades.

In the summer semester 286 students (excluding male sex) at the academy of arts learned 1938. Thus it was to Vienna (1,005 students) and Berlin (309 students) third biggest academy of art of the German Reich.

To 26. April 1947 became the mechanism as university for graphics and book art Leipzig again-opens. From 1946 to 1949 walter Arnold ( 1909-1979) was a professor at the university. Starting from 1951 was Albert Kapr professor for writing and book organization.

by the Saxonian university structure law of 10. April 1992 was confirmed the university for graphics and book art in Leipzig, while other Leipziger universities was dissolved or folded up. Since 2001 Marion is sprinkler spokeswoman of the university for diagram and book art Leipzig.
