Hydrolysis

the hydrolysis is splitting a chemical compound by reaction with water.

(Formally) a hydrogen becomes atom to the “piece of gap”, which binds remaining hydroxyl remainder to the other one. The reversal of the hydrolysis is a condensation reaction. By hydrolysis many bio molecules (z become. B. Proteine, Disaccharide, Polysaccharide oder Fette) im Stoffwechsel durch Enzyme in ihre Bausteine (Monomere) zerlegt. Eine wichtige Hydrolyse-Reaktion, die Proteinen Energie für mechanische Arbeit, Transportprozesse u.ä. gibt, ist die Spaltung von ATP zu ADP.

Ein Beispiel ist die Hydrolyse eines Esters, die die Umkehrreaktion zur Veresterung darstellt.
