Jacek Kuroń

Jacek Kuroń (* 3. March 1934 in Lemberg, today's Ukraine, † 17. June 2004 in Warsaw) was a Polish civil rights activist, journalist, a historian and a politician.

Jacek Kuroń was joint founder of the Solidarność into the 1970er years and one of the closest coworkers of Lech Wałęsa. It was member of the opposition at so-called rounding table after end of the communist rule in Poland. In the first democratically selected government Kuroń from 1989 was to 1991 social and employment minister. 1992 and 1993 he followed the political party liberty union . With the Präsidentenwahl 1995 it received more than nine per cent of the voices.

Kuroń had a long career as an oppositional in communist Poland, who was coined/shaped by numerous arrests. First he was however functionary of the communist youth federation ZMP in the time of the Stalinismus. From 1952 to 1953 and from 1956 to 1964 he was member of the communist united labour party of Poland (PVAP), because of excessive criticism was twice excluded. 1964 he was arrested the first time by the Polish security agency for 48 hours. 1965 he was condemned to three years prison, but 1967 again to dismiss.

1968 it published a Marxist criticism at the communist system, the open letter to the members of the basic organization of the Polish united labour party and the members of the university organization of the federation of socialist youth at the Warsaw university. While the student March rebellions in Warsaw he was arrested in the same year again and condemned to 3 1/2 years detention and 1971 again to dismiss.

During the strikes in Danzig 1980 it was taken preventively in detention and became released after the August contracts between state and Solidarność in September again. After imposition of the martial law from 1981 to 1984 it was three years long arrested.
