Jaffator (Jerusalem)

the Jaffator (Hebrew: שעריפו) is because of the west side of the old part of town of Jerusalem directly beside the citadel or the David tower and leads from the Jerusalemer new city into the Christian and Armenian quarter. On Arab the gate Hebrontor is called.

The name is formerly derived as with the Damascus gate from that Jerusalem with Jaffa connecting road, which left the old part of town here. Beside the gate 1898 became on the occasion of the attendance of the German emperor Wilhelm II. in the Osmani realm at that time a broad breach into the wall struck; by this breach today also motor vehicles can drive into the old part of town.
