Decade
the decade, also decade or Dezennium is one period of 10 years.
In its strict meaning provided with ordinal numbers, the decade is used for the historical timing, for example „the first decade of the twentieth century “. This began naturally onlyat the 1. January 1901 and ended to 31. December 1910.(See the year zero).
Besides there are the so-called „common decades “, for example „the 20's 20. Century “. These are however not completely identical with „the third decade20. Century “, since the first logical-proves, the year 1920 in and the year 1930 excludes, which include latter term, just as logically, the year 1920 out and however the year 1930 also. „The usuellen decades become usual “also only off the twenties upward used, of „decimal “years to speak is rather unusually, „Nuller “years sounds completely artificial. The science of history uses therefore primarily the actual decades.
In the policy the term is also used „decade “or „decade “, around itself oneTo give time interval for the reaching of goals. Examples from the work of the UN:
- Decade to the Zurückdrängung of the malaria in the developing countries, in particular in Africa, from 2001 to 2010
- second international decade for the removal of the colonialism, of 2001 to 2010
- international decade for a culture of the peace and the non-violence in favor of the children of the world, from 2001 to 2010
in the Wikipedia become for the overview articles - because of more intuitive navigation - „the usuellen decades “in place of„the historical decades “uses. However the centuries are correctly represented (z. B. the year 2000 with 20. Century, the year 1900 with 19. Century etc.). See to this topic also the articles millenium and year zero.
