Juan José Flores
Juan José Flores (* 19. July 1800 in Puerto Cabello in today's Venezuela; † 1. October 1864 Isla de Puná) was a first president of Ecuador and got therefore the surname “the founder of the republic”. It began its office 1830 and completed later two further office periods, from 1839 to 1843 and from 1843 to 1845.
It was born Venezuela in Puerto Cabello , and occurred in the age of 15 years the army. After its victory over Peruvian invasion forces with Tarqui it was promoted 1829 to general. Its entangling into the murder of Antonio José de Sucre to 4. June 1830 could be never proven. As itself Ecuador to 13. May 1830 of large Colombia solved, became it the head new of the state, and then to 24. August 1830 appointed the provisional president. Its official term of office began however only to 22. September 1830, 11 days after its choice to the constitutional president by the parliament in Riobamba. This office period lasted up to 10. September 1834, and was characterized by numerous unrests. Flores was confronted led revolution , which wanted to prevent the door of Ecuador from large Colombia with one of Luis Urdaneta, a trailer of Simón Bolívar. Flores had to set itself also against a revolution attempt by Vicente Rocafuerte, for a member of the Ecuadorian congress, to the resistance. Finally the two came to a convention - Rocafuerte should become the successor of Flores in the office for president, and these in response commanders in chief of the military. Likewise Flores fought a Colombian invading army during this term of office starting from 1832. After the fights were flamed 1834, it finally defeated them to 18. January 1835 in Miñarica, close Ambato.
Flores' second term of office began at the 1. February 1839 and ended to 15. January 1843. The beginning of this office period was characterized by peace and social progress - it stood to its promises of fair government and defense of the liberty. 1842 however it interfered on request of the Colombian government into the policy of Neugranada (today's Colombia) to also fight in order its old adversary José María Obando. When it was forced later to intervene again it was attacked by the Colombian army, and its popularity at home began to sink. After it had then come with the elections 1842 to irregularities, it pushed to cancel on it the condition from 1835 to. The new condition, which received fast the pointed name “Carta de la esclavitud “(“slavery explanation”), permitted it, to remain for a third office period at power. During this term of office, at the 1. April 1843 began, fought to Flores to remain at power. Finally it became to 6. March 1845 by a rebellion led by Vicente Rocafuerte and Vicente Ramón Roca fallen. Roca became then a next president of Ecuador.
Flores fled to Peru, of where out he repeats political conspiracies against Ecuadorian presidents supported. In the national crisis of 1859/60, a civil war in Ecuador, he became field gentleman of its original political Gegeners, the klerikal conservative Gabriel García Moreno. They came out together victoriously from the war, García Moreno became a first provisional head of state, then constitutional president. Flores became governor von Guayaquil. In a short war with Neugranada 1862 was it as a field gentleman, again actively likewise with the fight of some revolution attempts against García Moreno.
It died 1864 on its ship, which had set on the Isla de Puná in the gulf by Guayaquil, at urine poisoning due to an acute kidney failure.
