Justus Perthes
Johann George Justus Perthes (* 11. September 1749 in Rudolstadt; † 1. May 1816 in Gotha) was a German bookseller and publisher.
Perthes was the son of the Rudolstädter of yard physician Johann Justus Perthes; the later fürstliche tax secretary Christoph Friedrich Perthes was its brother. The publisher Friedrich Christoph Perthes was its nephew.
After its training as the buyer Perthes got an employment in the bookshop of Carl William Ettinger in Gotha. Together with this and Friedrich Duerfeldt created Perthes 1778 a company, in order to continue the Ettinger bookshop on one's own.

In September 1785 extended Perthes as well as its business partners this company in Gotha to geographically - the kartografischen publishing house, which particularly attained world-wide acknowledgment by its ( training ) maps and Atlases.
Those Ettinger bookshop came up in the Perthes publishing house; until 1815 the Gothai Genealogi yard calendar under Ettingers name one gave change; today “the Gotha” still admits under the designation. The yearbook de Gotha was based on the yearbook nécessaire, which William of red mountain published 1763 for the yard in Gotha.
The publishing house Justus Perthes and August Peter man, who changed 1854 from London to Gotha, continued the tradition of the scientific Geografie and cartography , which had been justified in Gotha around 1800 by the astronomer baron Franz Xaver of Zach.
The publishing house outlasted also the division of Germany, and became (from 1953 to 1994) as geographical publishing house Justus Perthes in Darmstadt, and/or. since 1953 as VEB Hermann Haack geographical-cartographic institute Gotha in the GDR at that time resumed. 1992 were denationalized the Gothaer principal firm; both publishing houses were sold to Ernst Klett school book publishing house. 2003 were changed again the Firmierung now of the 100%igen Klett subsidiary in Klett Perthes publishing house GmbH.
