the canton Nidwalden is a canton in that Central Switzerland. With the half canton Obwalden it formed Unterwalden, for one of the three Urkantone of 1291.

Geografie

Nidwalden is in the center of Switzerland. In the north the canton is by that Vierwaldstättersee limits, in all other directions by mountain ranges.

in the year 1291 created Unterwalden (Nidand Obwalden) together with Uri and Schwyz the confederation. At the time at that time this still no state was, but against 14. and 15.
