Karl Eduard von Schnitzler

Karl Eduard smelling pool of broadcasting corporations Arthur von Schnitzler (* 28. April 1918 in Berlin; † 20. September 2001 in Zeuthen) was a German journalist. It became famous as moderator of the GDR television broadcast the black channel. to 28. April 1918 became ofSchnitzler in Berlin as a youngest son of the Legationsrates Julius Eduard von Schnitzler born. Its father was active since 1898 as a vice-consul in Shanghai. The nut/mother was Margarethe of Schnitzler, geb. Gillette. Its cousins were short baron von Schröder, the sales manager of the industrial union colors George von Schnitzler and Ambassador Herbert von Dirksen.

1932 it occurred the socialist worker youth (SAJ) and began themselves with communism to argue. After the Abitur took from Schnitzler 1937 thatStudy of the medicine in Freiburg up, broke this off however and began a commercial theory in Cologne.

Soldier was from 1939 to 1944 in the Russia campaign from Schnitzler. In June 1944 he came into British shank and worked from now on as “ German prisoners of war speak propagandist for the BBC in the editorship of the daily BBC transmission here to the homeland”.

1945 from the shank to dismiss it became a commentator with the broadcast in the British zone of occupation, the northwestGerman broadcast (NWDR). At the 1. January 1946 becameit acting director and director/conductor of the political department of the NWDR.

1947 became Schnitzler because of political differences to dismiss and changed to the citizens of Berlin broadcast and Deutschlandsender into the Soviet zone of occupation. it occurred 1948 the SED . 1952 he became leaderthe Kommentatorengruppe of the national broadcast committee and late Chefkommentator of the GDR television.

Starting from 1960 it moderated the transmission the black channel, in which it commentated the west television in the sense of the GDR guidance in reaction to the western magnet theory. Schnitzler was considered as Hard liner and was also called due to its parteiischen reporting and argumentation way by parts of the population “Sudel Ede”. After Schnitzlers data “Sudel Ede” was however no vernacular, but an invention of the RIAS (Lit.: “The red channel”, S. 18). 1978 became SchnitzlerMember of the central executive committee of the society for GermanSoviet friendship (DSF).

Schnitzlers activity as moderator of the “black channel” led in the GDR to the emergence of the following political joke: Question: What is “carves”? - Answer: The unit for (extremelyshort) time interval between the appearance of the Vorspanns of the “black channel” on the screen and switching the television off (see also jokes of the GDR). A similar joke stated, a majority of the population of GDR believed, of Schnitzlers name is “Karl Eduard Vonsch”,because the television before complete denomination of the name was already switched off. Because of its aggressive propaganda against capitalism Schnitzler belonged in the GDR to the usually-hated persons. For GDR inhabitants without the possibility of receiving west television this television broadcast was thoseonly chance to do it at least in cutouts.

To 30. October 1989 stopped the GDR television the “black channel”. Schnitzler said good-bye with the words: “In this sense become I mean work as a communist and journalist for the only oneAlternative ones to inhuman capitalism continue, as weapon in the class warfare for the promotion and defense of my socialist native country. And in this sense, companions and comrade loves my dear Zuschauerinnen and spectators: Good-bye.“ 1990 led the Party of Democratic Socialism a party procedure approximately ofSchnitzler.

After the collapse of the GDR wrote from Schnitzler some months long a column for the satire magazine Titanic. He withdrew from the Party of Democratic Socialism and became member of the DKP.

Apart from its television activity Schnitzler turned also some documentary films.With some works becomes it in an investigation (Lit.: Prase and Kretzschmar) accused by medium scientists of the University of Leipzig also its theses with manipulated Filmmaterial to have represented.

Karl Eduard von Schnitzler died to 20. September 2001 at the age of83 years in Zeuthen at the consequences of a pneumonia.
