Kedah (Jawi: قدح, in former times Keda or Queda) is a Federal State and a sultanate in the northwest of Malaysia with approximately 1.650.000 inhabitants. Capital of the sultanate is Alor Setar.
Kedah is located at the west coast of the malaiischen peninsula to the Andamanensee. In the north Kedah borders on Thailand and on the malaiische Sultanate of Perlis.
To Kedah also the pre-aged Inselgruppe Langkawi belongs.

history
Kedah was long time a malaiisches principality, which was Siam tributary. Great Britain brought in 19. Century the south of the Malaii peninsula as Straits Settlements under its force, to which also Kedah belonged.
