Kfz characteristic (Spain)
In designated up to the year first and/or. the first two letters of the those Province, in which the vehicle is certified (for example A 5678 fG for a vehicle from Alicante).
Since 2001 becomes the Kfz characteristics central assigns, the regional origin of the respective vehicle is not recognizable any longer. The new Kfz characteristics consist for example 2233 CXD followed of four numbers from three letters. The characteristics carry a black inscription on white background with the state hedgehog as small sample in light-grey. At the lefthand side is a blue volume with the letter E for España as well as the European stars. Also the old characteristics can be equipped when desired the owner with the European land identification.
A vehicle always keeps its characteristic in Spain with owner change, even if it is sold into other provinces. The characteristics are uniquely assigned, i.e. with notice of departure of a vehicle its number is never otherwise again used. In addition the characteristics are assigned in ascending order (on 2233 CXD 2234 CXD u follow.s.w.). Thus on the one hand the approximate age of the Erstzulassung of a vehicle in Spain can be determined on the basis the characteristic, on the other hand one is thus in addition, the usefulness of the Sytems temporally limited. This was one of the reasons for the abolishment of the old system, was there in provinces with particularly strong license payments (Barcelona and Madrid) the possible combinations exhausted. Also the validity period for the 2001 introduced variant is thus limited to few decades.
In addition a characteristic of the new certification numbers is that they lead excluding consonants in the letter block. All all this of the new characteristics was therefore not 0000AAA but 0000BBB. Deweiteren will follow 0000EAA but 0000FBB after 9999DZZ not.
With permissions to 2001 the following seals of the provinces applied (before 2001 certified Kfz at present further the characteristic leads after old logic):
