Church fathers

church fathers are called Christian authors of the first eight centuries, which contributed crucially to the teachings and to the self understanding of the Christianity.

Generally the epoch of the church fathers is sliding defined. It formally begins, where authors no longerin the production of neutestamentlicher and urchristlicher writings are involved, but already begin to commentate these writings. The end of this epoch coincides with late ancient times - the church fathers become now even the literary source and the authority of theological decision making.

All important Christian authors within their range, also from more recent time into the present, are counted by the orthodox church such to the church fathers, whereby concerning Rechtgläubigkeit no Totalität is required. Only completely few of the church fathers become as error freein their delivered teachings recognition.

The catholic church judges a church father on the basis the following criteria:

  • one quoted by a general council,
  • in public documents addressed to the church by Popes one quoted,
  • in the Roman Martyrologie as sanctitate et doctrinainsignis (lat. of outstanding holyness and gel honouring SAMness) designation,
  • in the first centuries in churches publicly one read,
  • of some more well-known church fathers than authority of the faith one quotes.

Evangelist theology knows a loaded term of the church father in thatSenses that the church fathers step as authorities beside the Bible, not. The church fathers are summarized among the fathers and mothers in the faith.

In the abendländischen art in particular two quadripartite groups are explained (see. Church teacher):
