Fulminic acid
free fulminic acid is a poisonous, zersetzliches gas, the half structural formula is HCNO. It is a formal oxide of prussic acid and by Roland Scholl was thus determined.
It contradicted thereby the form O 2 NCH 2 CN, the Nitroacetonitrils postulated by Kekule. The molecular weight amounts to 43.03 g/mol. Fulminic acid polymerizes easily to ISO cyanic acid. It can be set free from its salts, the Fulminaten, with sulfuric acid (lightning pyrolysis).
Fulminic acid is isomer to cyanic acid (HOCN) and to ISO fulminic acid (HONC).
