Csongrád [ˈʧonɡraːd] is a Komitat (administrative district) in south Hungary. It borders on Serbia (Vojvodina) and Romania as well as on the Komitate Bács Kiskun, Jász Nagykun Szolnok and Békés. It has a surface of 4.263 km ² and (2001) 418,574 inhabitants. The Komitatssitz is Szeged, other important cities is Csongrád, Szentes, Hódmezővásárhely and Makó.
the area is part of the large Hungarian ones Lowlandses and are flowed through of the Theiss, into which the Maros flows. West the Theiss are numerous sumps.
