War Ministry

the war Ministry was in earlier epochs the highest public authority for the army - and war natures.

At the point stood the war Minister, who was usually a higher officer and was appointed by the head of state. In constitutional states it had to represent its office also in relation to the parliament. In military regard the war Ministry led either the entire army nature including the supreme command (like at that time in France) or only the administration (as in Prussia).

The today's designation is usually Ministry of Defense, which is regarded of some as Euphemismus.

20 had German Reich in the German Reich. Century still the States of Prussia, Bavaria, Württemberg and Saxonia war Ministries; for all remaining German states the Prussian war Ministry was responsible.
